Activate your inner volunteer spirit at the YMCA of Greater Kansas City by finding the volunteer commitment that works for you. Volunteer positions can be customized to fit your schedule, area of interest and geographic preference. Join 3,100 other YMCA volunteers who make a difference in our community. We’ll provide training and support so that you will have fun while making a valuable contribution.
Volunteer Opportunities

Strengthen our core services at any of 19 YMCA membership centers:
- Greet YMCA members at the front desk and give tours during high-traffic times.
- Interact with youth age 3 months to 8 years old in the Child Watch area.
- Coach a youth sports team or officiate a game.
- Dive into an aquatics volunteer position as a swim lesson aid or a water fitness instructor.
- Challenge yourself by becoming a Buddy for a young athlete with special needs in the Challenger Program.
- Mentor first generation college-bound high school students as an Adult Achiever in the Young Achievers program.
- Pitch in at a Kids Night Out event, Child Watch or a special holiday event.
- Serve on your local YMCA Advisory Council.
- Raise funds by assisting the fund development team with outreach.
- Become a STAR in the life of a child. High school or college students interested in volunteering once a week may get involved with the STARS (Students Taking Action to Reach Success) program, which serves third through sixth grade students who are struggling in academics.
